【アメリカ建国250年・独立記念日に寄せて】O Captain! My Captain!by Walt Whitman Recitation & Music

   本年の7月4日はアメリカ建国250年とのことで、W・ホイットマンの「O Captain! My Captain!（おお、船長！わが船長！）を、ポップビートに乗せて朗誦した。ペシミスティックな内容をさらにペシミスティックにするような明るい曲調に仕上げた。確かに生きにくい世の中だが、自滅を望まぬ限り、なんとか希望にしがみつき生きてゆかねばならない。 　ありがとう、ホイットマン！ 　This July 4 marks the 250th anniversary of American independence. To commemorate the occasion, I recited Walt Whitman’s “O Captain! My Captain!” over a pop beat. 　I set this pessimistic poem to a bright musical style—one that, paradoxically, makes its pessimism feel even deeper. 　Yes, we live in a difficult world. But unless we wish for our own self-destruction, we have no choice but to cling somehow to hope and keep on living. 　Thank you, Whitman!

9月15日は日本の祝祭日の一つであり、その意義は、高齢者に敬意を表すること。しかし、現在の日本は、一部の資産家を除いて、高齢者にとっては実に優しくない国となっている。その現状をアイロニカルに日本語と英語で俳句を交えて表現した。

Note: September 15, one of Japan's national holidays, called Respect for the Aged Day, is meant to honor the elderly. However, modern Japan has become a rather harsh place for the elderly, except for the wealthiest. This reality is expressed ironically through both Japanese and English haiku in the video.
