New Page, New Age" Looking back the history between Japan and US through poetry!

About a week ago, I found out that today’s Nuyorican theme (the 2nd) was “Fresh Page,” and it sparked an idea. From there it was a mad dash—writing the poem, recording it, and making the video. Last night, and again today on the day of the performance, I was up at 2 a.m., finishing it in a last-minute sprint. The result is this new piece: “New Page, New Age.” More than anything, that nagging sense of dissonance between Japan and the U.S. stirred my contrarian poetic spirit. My Nuyorican friends—especially the host, Elemen2al—loved it, which was a huge relief. Not bad at all for a first read. Let’s keep this momentum going and run full-speed through 2026—the Year of the Horse! P.S. Toyotomi Hideyoshi—who also ap...

【誤字熟語/Typo Tropes~Definition of word & haiku】 税ムショ(ぜいむしょ)“Tax Prison” Japanese & English Version.

This is a poetic attempt to depict the state of the world with its haiku (senryu), by paraphrasing Japanese idioms like wordplay. Please enjoy it together with the English translation.

【Tax Prison】

Adjusting the economy, correcting disparities, guiding behavior, and enforcing the use of legal tender—these are the actual roles and purposes of taxes, yet in reality, public works projects such as road and port construction and social security such as medical care and pensions, which are carried out first by issuing government bonds (spending first), the rhetoric that “your valuable tax money is being used” for these activities obscures the fact, leading people to resign themselves with a sense of “well, what can you do, right?”; taxing not only the living costs of non-regular workers with high Engel coefficients but also the formula milk for babies, and continuing to squeeze even after retirement under the slogan of “the era of the 100-year lifespan,” ultimately depriving them of a leisurely old age as imposing a tax penalty from cradle to grave, i.e., even taxing their coffins, making it akin to Sartre's notion that “man is condemned to be free,” but rather being “condemned to pay,” transforming our Central Land of Reed Plains into a paradise for bureaucrats, a hell for the common people.

Even to heaven,

You are my harsh companion.

Hateful tax person.
