【アメリカ建国250年・独立記念日に寄せて】O Captain! My Captain!by Walt Whitman Recitation & Music by POETAQ

   本年の7月4日はアメリカ建国250年とのことで、W・ホイットマンの「O Captain! My Captain!（おお、船長！わが船長！）を、ポップビートに乗せて朗誦した。ペシミスティックな内容をさらにペシミスティックにするような明るい曲調に仕上げた。確かに生きにくい世の中だが、自滅を望まぬ限り、なんとか希望にしがみつき生きてゆかねばならない。

　ありがとう、ホイットマン！

　This July 4 marks the 250th anniversary of American independence. To commemorate the occasion, I recited Walt Whitman’s “O Captain! My Captain!” over a pop beat.

　I set this pessimistic poem to a bright musical style—one that, paradoxically, makes its pessimism feel even deeper.

　Yes, we live in a difficult world. But unless we wish for our own self-destruction, we have no choice but to cling somehow to hope and keep on living.
