【広島原爆の日に寄せて―山之口貘「鮪に鰯」をバラードに】For Hiroshima Day: Yamanokuchi Baku’s “Tuna and Sardine” as a Ballad

　山之口貘の、核兵器をめぐるシュールでシニカルな詩「鮪に鰯」を、バラードで朗唱した。

「鮪の刺身が食べたい」という、いかにも日常的な言葉から始まった詩は、やがて人間と鮪の境目を曖昧にし、地球を覆う戦争と核兵器の影へと広がっていく。

　ユーモラスでありながら不穏。

　素朴でありながら辛辣。

　山之口貘の言葉には、声高に何かを訴えるのではなく、人間の欲望や矛盾を、少し離れた場所から静かに見つめるような冷徹さがある。その奇妙な詩世界を、今回は重く、どこか物悲しいバラードとして朗唱した。

　映像では、鮪と爆弾が融合した異形の姿や、放射能によって崩れていく魚体などを用い、原詩に漂うグロテスクなユーモアと、核兵器の不条理を表現したつもり。

　I have turned Yamanokuchi Baku’s surreal and cynical poem about nuclear weapons, “Tuna and Sardine,” into a ballad.

　The poem begins with an utterly ordinary remark: “I feel like having some tuna sashimi.” From there, however, the boundary between human beings and tuna gradually dissolves, and the poem expands toward the shadow cast over the earth by war and nuclear weapons.

　Humorous, yet unsettling.

　Simple, yet piercing.

　Rather than raising its voice in protest, Baku’s poem seems to observe human desire and contradiction quietly, from a slight distance, with a certain cold clarity. I have tried to express that strange poetic world through a heavy and somewhat mournful ballad.

　The video also features grotesque images of tuna fused with bombs, as well as fish bodies disfigured by radiation, in an attempt to convey both the poem’s dark humor and the absurdity of nuclear weapons.

　The video will be released on August 6, in remembrance of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima.
