Japan fought well in the World Cup group stage, yet here at home the country is being battered by earthquakes and typhoons. On top of that, television, newspapers, and advertising inserts are all calling on people to receive various vaccinations, using celebrities to promote them—despite the enormous harm caused by the COVID vaccines. We must remain alert to the danger of being distracted from serious matters by sports and other public spectacles. As Sakutaro Hagiwara wrote: “bacteria are swimming.” “Some are in the center of a landscape.” Beware—the bacteria, and the poet!

【Weekly Flower:Sedum】

Sedum

Language of Flowers

Starry, serene, think of me, calm, love that never dies,

The word comes from the Latin: sedere, to sit.

************************************************

Shining sedum.

Your silent smile is so seductive, madam.

My love will never lie down.
